Police are searching for two aboriginal men after an alleged tomahawk attack in a shopping centre near the New South Wales-Queensland border.
A man, 25, was treated for facial injuries after allegedly being struck during a violent confrontation at the Tweed City Shopping Centre in Tweed Heads South on Thursday afternoon.
NSW Police on Friday released images of two men they believe may be able to assist with enquiries.
“The first man is described as being of aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his 20s, with short dark hair, medium build wearing a black jacket, grey pants and green Nike shoes,” police said in a statement.
“The second man is described as being of aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his 20s, with long dark hair, medium build wearing a multi coloured football shirt with the number 10 on it, the aboriginal flag and cream pants.”
CCTV footage shows the two men running through the shopping centre car park.
Witnesses said on Thursday that the shopping centre was stained with blood after the alleged incident, which happened outside Woolworths.
“Wow just saw the guy … blood everywhere. Was wondering what had happened. Pretty scary stuff,” said one local on social media.
The alleged victim was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.
A tomahawk was seized by police for forensic examination.
