President Trump targeted America’s DEI bureaucracy on Wednesday with a far-reaching executive order that appears to draw off Richard Hanania’s “The Origins of Woke” and Jeremy Carl’s “The Unprotected Class.”
Trump’s order, “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity,” revokes Lyndon Johnson’s Executive Order 11246 which “requires affirmative action and prohibits federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.”
“Illegal DEI and DEIA policies not only violate the text and spirit of our longstanding Federal civil-rights laws, they also undermine our national unity, as they deny, discredit, and undermine the traditional American values of hard work, excellence, and individual achievement in favor of an unlawful, corrosive, and pernicious identity-based spoils system,” Trump’s order says.
I wonder if this will effect the Biden administration’s last minute push to give Jewish businesses “minority” benefits?
As I highlighted on Monday, Trump’s incoming U.S. deputy secretary for commerce for minority business development, Madiha Latif, had apparently signaled they were going to run with it.
It would be insane to allow that to go forward while taking a sledgehammer to all this other DEI crap.
At least one judge has already ruled that the federal government’s race-based contracting schemes favoring minority-owned businesses are discriminatory — it only makes sense to end all these programs.
Trump also signed an executive order to terminate “all discriminatory programs, including illegal DEI and ‘diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility’ (DEIA) mandates, policies, programs, preferences, and activities in the Federal Government, under whatever name they appear.”
