A manhunt is underway for a group of thugs who viciously stabbed an 18-year-old man in a quiet Melbourne suburb early on New Year’s Day.
Victoria Police said the victim was stabbed five times on Point Nepean Road, near Collins Parade and Calcutta Street in Sorrento at about 2am on January 1, leaving him with serious upper body injuries.
“Detectives believe up to 10 males were involved, who were perceived to be African, Middle Eastern or Mediterranean in appearance, between 17 and 21-years-old and wearing Nike Tech Fleece clothing in black or grey, and ski masks or hoods,” police said on Monday.
“The main offender has been described as having dark skin, four-inch-long braids, approximately 19-21-years-old and wearing Nike Tech Fleece clothing.”
Police said the group fled the scene before police arrived.
The victim needed stitches for his injuries.
The stabbing is just one of many alleged knife crimes involving Africans in Melbourne in recent weeks.
This year so far a Sudanese man Lino Atem, 24, was stabbed to death in Wyndham Vale and Africans robbed a rideshare driver at knifepoint in Melton, while in December two men were charged over a fatal brawl involving up to 40 Africans with machetes, and a gang of 10 Africans with machetes stabbed a boy in Darley.
