A manhunt is underway after a woman was attacked during a frightening attempted carjacking in Melbourne.
Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives are looking for a suspect, aged in his 40s and of Middle Eastern appearance, who allegedly tried to steal the female driver’s black Maserati SUV in Oakleigh in the city’s southwest last Friday.
Victoria Police said the woman was sitting in her parked car when she was approached, dragged out and assaulted by a stranger at about 6pm on August 2.
The woman, from Wheelers Hill, was taken to hospital suffering non-life-threatening head injuries, and a Good Samaritan was also hurt.
“Nearby witnesses located the offender in the woman’s vehicle and attempted to stop him, but he fled the scene towards Atkinson Street on foot,” Victoria Police said.
“One of the witnesses, a 40-year-old Point Cook man also sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
“The offender is perceived as being Middle Eastern in appearance, in his 40’s with a medium build, a beard, moustache and shaggy hair.
“He was last seen wearing a black coat, dark pants, and black runners.”
