Muslims overwhelmingly voted for left-wing parties in German election

The vast majority of Muslims voted for left-wing parties in Germany’s federal election, polling data shows.

According to an election-day survey conducted for public broadcaster ZDF, 29% of Muslims voted for far-left party Die Linke (The Left), followed by 28% for the centre-left SPD, and 16% for left-wing populist party BSW.

Another 4% voted for the Greens, for a total of 77% who cast their ballots for left-wing parties. Just 12% voted for the centre-right CDU, and 6% for right-wing party AfD, Junge Freiheit reported.

The survey highlighted a stark contrast between Muslim voter preferences and the overall results of Sunday’s 2025 federal election, where the CDU won 28.5% of the vote, the AfD won 20.8%, the SPD 16.4%, the Greens 11.6% and Die Linke just 8.7%.

Austrian right-wing activist Martin Sellner said the survey confirmed that voters from immigrant backgrounds tended to vote left, and that the ascendant CDU and AfD needed to respond with anti-immigration policies.

“The figures clearly show [that] the more migrants and the more Muslims, the fewer AfD voters,” he wrote on X.

“That’s why remigration is needed. The influx and mass naturalisations must be stopped immediately!”

In a separate post he pointed out that if only Muslims had voted Germany would be governed by a far-left coalition between Die Linke and the SPD.

“Which right-winger still says that demographics and ethnic choice are not the decisive issues and remigration is not the most important goal?” he asked.

In the Berlin borough of Neukölln, where more than one in five residents were born in Muslim countries, Die Linke candidate Ferat Koçak won with 30% of the vote – 10% more than his nearest rival and 11% more than the SPD incumbent.

“Thousands of people with Palestinian roots live in Neukölln. For me, it is a matter of course that I campaign for an end to German arms exports to Israel and for a just peace for all people in the region,” Koçak said before the election.
