Mansfield, Massachusetts – A Haitian migrant has been arrested and charged with what police say was the sexual assault of a 10-year-old boy who lived next to him. The crime is alleged to have taken place in Mansfield, an 84% White town according to the Census Reporter.
Police announced that 18-year-old Akim Marc Desire was taken into custody on August 28 and now faces charges of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
Following his arraignment at Attleboro District Court on August 29th, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials from Boston assumed custody of Desire—who is Black—the next day.
According to ICE, Desire had entered the United States legally in June 2023 through Miami as part of the Biden administration’s controversial CHNB parole program, which allows migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to apply for entry with a sponsor.
However, officials claim that Desire was unlawfully present in the country at the time of his arrest and had allegedly violated the terms of his entry.
The CHNB parole program has been scrutinized since its inception. In July, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) temporarily paused the program after an internal review uncovered evidence of widespread fraud, including over 100,000 applications reportedly filled out by approximately 3,000 “serial sponsors.”
The DHS announced last week that it would resume the program, however, after implementing what it calls “additional vetting procedures” for U.S.-based supporters.
The state of Massachusetts—often described as an unofficial sanctuary for foreign nationals—has dedicated several cities and towns as official sanctuary zones. This designation can sometimes lead to limited cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities, and stymie criminal investigations into particularly heinous crimes.
This, along with the state’s “right-to-housing” laws, has led to the state experiencing a self-imposed “migrant crisis” over the past year as a significant amount of migrants arriving in the United States make their way to Massachusetts.
Last August, Governor Healey declared an official state of emergency amid a massive influx of migrants seeking shelter. This has led to the settlement of migrants into 80 overwhelmingly White towns across Massachusetts.
Since then, migrants have filled up the state’s hotels, with the Governor even making appeals to private landowners and homeowners to offer space to house migrants.
According to the Massachusetts GOP, the state has quietly spent over a billion dollars housing such migrants over the last year. Meanwhile, newly arrived Haitian migrants like Desire have been involved in numerous crimes all across the Bay State.
In early July, a Haitian migrant, identified in reports as 26-year-old Cory Alvarez, was accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in Massachusetts. Shockingly, he was released on a paltry $500 bail despite requests by ICE to detain him.
In August, a Haitian migrant, identified by Massachusetts authorities as Marc Kervens Beauvais, was charged with aggravated rape and assault at one of the state’s taxpayer-funded migrant hotels.
