A man who claims to be a woman has been awarded the Sydney Local Woman of the Year 2025 by a homosexual MP responsible for laws that could see parents jailed for trying to stop their children from “transitioning”.
Sydney MP Alex Greenwich, who spearheaded controversial laws banning gay conversion in NSW last year, announced on Thursday that he had given the award to a biological male who calls himself Brianna Skinner.
Mr Greenwich said he had known Mr Skinner since 2014, when he “contacted my office to raise concerns about people in NSW being unable to change their gender on identification documents such as birth and marriage certificates”.
The MP added that Mr Skinner’s experience of “transitioning from male to female” helped inform his Equality Bill that passed parliament last year allowing people to change the sex listed on their birth certificate with just a signature.
The award sparked outrage from women’s rights activists and everyday Australians fed-up with wokeness and radical gender ideology.
Binary Australia director Kirralie Smith responded to the award by writing on X: “Men are not women. There is no end to the gaslighting. We say no!”
“I am sick of men claiming women’s awards. They have no idea what it is like to be a woman and never will because they are men!” wrote another Aussie.
Mr Skinner, whose original name was Brett, appeared in a profile for the Bangkok Post alongside his Thai wife Nuna in 2016 where he complained about being unable to change the sex on his birth certificate to female.
A recent survey from The Australian Population Research Institute found that the vast majority of Australians reject radical gender ideology.
Only 11% of voters said they thought men who claimed to be women should be allowed to compete in women’s sports, with 74% opposed and 14% unsure.
And when asked the question “Some people argue that a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman, regardless of their sex when born. What do you think?” 25% agreed, 22% neither agreed nor disagreed, and 53% disagreed.
