Female jogger sexually assaulted in a Melbourne park

UPDATE: A 16-year-old boy has been charged over this incident.

A female jogger has allegedly been sexually assaulted while running through a park in Melbourne‘s north.

Victoria Police said the woman was passing under a bridge area in Jacana Reserve, near Johnstone Street, at 11.30am on August 14 when she was allegedly thrown to the ground from behind and sexually assaulted by an unknown male.

She was able to escape and was assisted by two passersby before being taken to hospital with minor injuries including scratches and shoulder pain.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the alleged attacker.

Police appealed for anyone who lives or was in the area near the Jacana Reserve between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Wednesday, 14 August and may have CCTV or dash cam footage to come forward.

Investigators are also keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or any suspicious activity in the reserve.
