A 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in a public toilet in Italy by a gang of Egyptian illegal immigrants who forced her screaming boyfriend to watch.
The horrific alleged attack in Catania, Sicily, has sparked fury across the country, with deputy PM Matteo Salvini demanding chemical castration for the alleged attackers and his party demanding immediate deportation.
Seven illegal immigrants from Egypt aged 15 to 19 – four adults and three minors – have been arrested, and are due in court soon.
The girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in the Villa Bellini park at about 7.30pm on January 30, while enjoying a walk with her 17-year-old boyfriend.
She told La Repubblica that she was grabbed by two of the alleged attackers while the others seized her boyfriend, before both were dragged into the park’s public toilets.
There the girl was alleged raped for 30 minutes by two of the Egyptians while the rest watched.
“And they forced my boyfriend to watch too,” she said.
“He was screaming, he was desperate. I said: ‘I beg you, I beg you, don’t hurt me, let me go’.”
She was able to identify two of the alleged rapists, while her boyfriend identified the other five.
Mr Salvini said “there can only be one cure – chemical castration” while an MEP from his Lega party, Annalisa Tardino, called for harsher sentences and the deportation of the suspects.
“In Egypt they would never have allowed such behaviour. The safety of our children must be a priority throughout,” she said.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also expressed her shock and vowed that “justice will be done”.
