Fugitive Indian brothers arrested over fatal Melbourne stabbing after two-day manhunt

Two brothers of Indian descent have been arrested in New South Wales over an alleged fatal stabbing in Melbourne on the weekend.

Abhijeet Abhijeet, 26, and Robin Gartan, 27, were apprehended in Goulburn on Tuesday following a two-day manhunt, and will face court tomorrow where homicide detectives are expected to apply to extradite them to Victoria.

Victoria Police were investigating an alleged stabbing incident in the Ormond area of Melbourne in the early hours of May 5.

Emergency services were called to a home after reports of a dispute and found two men suffering from alleged stab wounds at 1am.

One man, 22, from Noble Park died at the scene, another, 30, from the same suburb was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, and two others fled the scene, police said.

Police believe the men were all known to each other.

On Monday police released descriptions of Mr Abhijeet and Mr Gartan, and the car they were believed to be travelling in.
