Corporate media says it’s ‘undemocratic’ to stop non-citizens from voting

MEDIA SHAME FILE

Outlet: Crikey

Headline: Australia should let all residents vote — not just citizens

Summary: According to Benjamin Clark, a pro-Great Replacement Crikey contributor who doesn’t even live in Australia, it’s undemocratic to stop non-citizens, including temporary visa holders, from voting. Drawing the line at “people on Contiki tours”, Clark writes in this piece, a contender for worst of the year to date in a very crowded field, that everything would be just fine if 3.4 million people who can’t or won’t become Australian were suddenly given the power to elect their own representatives.

It would be laughable if Crikey wasn’t an influential publication that tells left-wing journalists (ie. most of them) how to think and keeps the media Overton Window from being dragged to the right.

Key quote: “Democracy is increasingly imperilled in other parts of the world. To defend our commitment to it, we ought to extend its benefits to as many residents as practicable”

Subtext: “If you don’t want Indian UberEats drivers voting for more Indian immigration you’re a far-right extremist”
