A rainbow lanyard-wearing Queensland public high school teacher has been identifying as a cat, hissing at students and demanding to be called “Miss Purr”.
The teacher at Marsden State High School, south of Brisbane, has been filmed by students in the classroom wearing a headband with cat ears, and allegedly licks their hands and growls when students don’t refer to them as a cat, The Courier Mail reported.
It is unclear from the footage whether the teacher is male or female, but in one photo appears to have facial hair.
“[The teacher] forces the children to call her Miss Purr and screeches and growls when they don’t listen,” a relative of one student said.

“[The teacher] sits in class and licks her hands. It’s absolutely disgusting. Something needs to be done about this.”
Another mother claimed in a Facebook group that the teacher made her daughter “purr” for a lolly, and a different relative of a student at the school said their child barks at the teacher and asked: “How can a student respect a teacher acting and walking around with animal ears?”
“It’s more frustrating that the mainstream schooling, and education system we are sending our kids to every day has teachers doing things like this.”
A Department of Education spokesperson said the behaviour was not acceptable and the issue had been raised with the teacher.

The incident has sparked a discussion about the public school system, with news site Caldron Pool reposting the story with the caption: “If you homeschool your kids, they’ll turn out weird.”
“Who would send their children to an insane asylum for an education?” asked another X user.
“And we’re going to see an even bigger increase in home schooling,” said a third commenter.
