Australian nationalists announce plans to form a political party

Australia’s largest nationalist group has announced plans to form a political party and started signing up supporters.

The official European Australian Movement (EAM) Telegram account, leader Thomas Sewell and prominent activist Joel Davis all posted about the plans on Thursday and urged their followers to register.

“We are signing up everyone, including members, partners, families, etc. The AEC [Australian Electoral Commission] requires 1,500 member signatures to register as a party,” the EAM said.

“The details must be legitimate and you must be an enrolled Australian voter. This project of beginning a political party will help our organisation gain political protection, and strengthen our political speech and activism projects in Australia.”

Mr Sewell urged Australian residents to contact the group’s Telegram contact bot to if they “wish to become a Political Supporter of White Australia”.

“We are currently engaged in a fight with the uni-Party who has banned us off most social media in an effort to crush opposition,” he wrote on Telegram.

“The Liberal and Labor Party have engaged in clear interference in the Commonwealth democratic process by having us recently banned off Twitter and arrested for peacefully demonstrating on Australia Day.

“We need to defeat this enemy of Australia at the High Court and cement the political rights of White Australians in our constitution. The days where traitors treat you as a second class citizen in your own nation are coming to an end.”

Mr Davis also urged his 19,000 subscribers across two channels to apply, saying: “The AEC requires 1,500 member signatures to register as a party, sign up as a supporter to become one of that first 1,500 today.”

According to another post by Mr Sewell, the group has created three different supporter classes, one of which will be used to register the party with the AEC.

Mr Sewell and Mr Davis, along with National Socialist Network (NSN) leader Jacob Hersant, 12 accounts associated with the NSN or EAM, and nationalist activist Blair Cottrell, were all simultaneously banned from X in February.

Two weeks later Mr Hersant and almost all of the organisation’s national and state chapters had their channels deleted from Telegram.

The right-wing activists believe Australian authorities were behind the bans, as no warnings or explanations were given and there were no avenues for appeal.

“The only plausible explanation is Australian government pressure,” Mr Davis said at the time.

Mr Sewell, Mr Hersant and Mr Davis are all currently challenging or planning to challenge charges related to their political activity – including for a march in Adelaide on Australia Day – and will argue their implied right to political communication under the constitution is being violated.
