A shaken couple have recounted how they woke to find a gang of African teenagers inside their bedroom during a terrifying alleged home invasion in Melbourne.
Four males aged 16, 16, 17, and 15, were arrested and charged over the alleged incident which unfolded at 4am on Sunday in the suburb of Kew, where houses cost up to $23 million, but two have already been released on bail.
The couple said they were woken up by balaclava-clad teenagers demanding the keys to their Porsches after allegedly entering the home through a pet door.
“I screamed, which woke [my partner] up, and then we realised another person came into the room and I really started screaming,” the female homeowner told Nine News.
“I kept telling them, ‘Don’t do this, this is really silly, you steal the car, you will go to jail’.”
Victoria Police allege the teenagers arrived in a BMW stolen from Cranbourne West overnight, and then stole mobile phones, jewellery and a wallet from the couple, aged 46 and 53, before fleeing the home.
They allegedly jumped over fences of nearby properties before being tracked down and arrested on Bramley Court by the Dog Squad and Air Wing.
The four teenagers, all from the Dandenong area, were charged with theft of motor vehicle, home invasion and theft.
Two were remanded into custody and two were bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.
The owner of the BMW told 7 News he caught three teenagers as they were inside his car in his garage but was unable to stop them driving off.
