African armed robbers on the run after raiding Melbourne service station with machetes

A group of African armed robbers are still on the run more than a month after a violent robbery in Melbourne‘s north.

Victoria Police have made a renewed appeal for assistance tracking down four men who robbed a service station in Glenroy the early hours of August 22.

A white Toyota HiAce van pulled into the petrol station on Pasco Vale Road at about 3.40am and one man got out and waited until an attendant opened the doors.

Police said three other men armed with machetes and baseball bats then rushed out of the van and forced their way inside before attacking the staff member and forcing him to open the till.

“The offenders, who were all wearing black hooded jumpers, stole cash and cigarettes before leaving the store and driving off in the van. Fortunately, the attendant was not seriously injured,” police said.

Fawkner Divisional Response Unit investigators have now released CCTV footage of three men they believe may be able to assist with enquiries.

Victoria Police did not include a description of the men, but from the security camera footage at least three of the suspects appear to be African.

One man is seen wielding a bat, while another carried a long machete, and while both were hooded they were not wearing gloves.

The robbery comes after a series of alleged incidents involving machetes in Melbourne in recent weeks, including the alleged murder of a 16-year-old in Melton last week, an alleged stabbing at Melton South station the week before that, and an alleged double stabbing in Caroline Springs a month ago.
